Summer has arrived, which means it’s time to get outdoors! And what better way to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Nanaimo than by signing up for an outdoor fitness class. Come summer, all kinds of outdoor fitness classes start up, giving you an opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise, all in a COVID-friendly environment. From Jumpstart’s year-round fitness classes to Brenda’s Yoga by the Ocean, check out a few ways to get active outdoors this summer.
Brenda’s Yoga by the Ocean will have you doing downward dog and tree pose on Nanaimo’s beautiful waterfront. These yoga classes, which are just $15 each, take place in Neck Point Park. It is a yoga flow class led by local instructor Brenda Norn and it will have you moving through the basic yoga poses (making it a great class for beginners, though yogis of all levels are welcome). Sign up for Brenda’s Yoga by the Ocean classes via Eventbrite. Classes take place every Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm throughout the summer.
Jumpstart Outdoor Fitness is known for their intense, bootcamp-style outdoor fitness classes that take place all year in Nanaimo. But for those that don’t love the cold, June is the perfect time to start attending. Classes are hosted by certified fitness instructors and take place in parks all over the city, including Departure Bay Beach, Westwood Lake, Beban Park, Neck Point Park, and more. Classes are all 60 minutes in length and include a warm-up, cool-down, and stretch period, and they take place from dusk to dawn, meaning you’ll easily be able to find one that fits your schedule. Prepare to get your sweat on!
If you’re visiting Nanaimo this month, then be sure to get outdoors and enjoy any of the fitness classes above. And if you need a place to stay during your visit, we’d love for you to book a room at the Best Western Dorchester Hotel in Nanaimo.
